Construction workers accidentally ruptured a gas line Friday in downtown Clintonville, forcing an evacuation of the area for about an hour until it was repaired.
The break occurred at 12:42 p.m. at the intersection of Main and East 12th streets, according to the police department.
Police, fire, water and utility, and street department personnel responded and secured the downtown area until the leak was repaired by We Energies.
Downtown business owners and customers as well as residents in nearby homes were evacuated until about 1:40 p.m. when they were allowed back into the area.
No damage occurred to any homes or businesses as a result of the leak. Emergency personnel stood by until the area was cleared and determined to be safe.
