Area customers can enjoy sumptuous pastries direct from Italy along with fresh homemade bread and donuts, all made from scratch, with the opening of Fannita’s Bakery in Shawano.
Domenic Badalamenti and his sister, Fannita Bommarito, took over Bult’s Bakery on Sept. 14 from Joe and Sara Rudesill.
“We never shut down,” Badalamenti said.
The Rudesills are still coaching the new owners and will stay a couple of months to help.
The Rudesills were in business for five years and are exploring what to do in the future.
“We have a couple pf options,” said Sara Rudesill, who grew up in the business with her stepfather, Ron Bult. “We thank everyone for their support over the years and helping us grow the business and making it successful.”
Badalamenti and his brother, Sal, own Luigi’s Pizza and Pasta on south Main Street in Shawano. Bommarito was a baker in Italy before moving to the United States five years ago.
“We sell a lot at Luigi’s,” Badalamenti said. “(Bommarito) always enjoyed baking. We were looking for a bakery.”
They decided Shawano was a good market, and it all fell into place when Bult’s became available.
All of Bommarito’s family will be involved in the bakery, including her husband, Alfonso, daughter, Vita, and son, Antonino.
Badalamenti, who will spend a lot of his time at the bakery, too, said the products and quality will stay the same.
“We will always have fresh bread and desserts,” he said.
Bommarito will add her own touches to desserts, with many of the recipes coming from her experience baking in Italy.
“We will have more unique stuff that you won’t find anywhere else,” Badalamenti said.
The bakery owners plan to do some remodeling and add newer equipment next year, he said.
