A revamped District 19 on the Shawano County Board would have pitted a pair of incumbents against each other for another term. Instead, Arlyn Tober and Dick Olson each chose not to run for reelection, leaving the seat open to someone new.
Lynn Tober-Steinke and Tyler Steenbock answered the call and will compete against each other in the April 2 election.
The district includes Ward 2 in the Town of Herman, Ward 1 in the Town of Pella and Ward 2 in the town of Belle Plain.
Tober-Steinke did not provide responses to a candidate questionnaire.
Tyler Steenbock
Background and qualifications: Born and raised in Ashwaubenon. Graduated Ashwaubenon High School. Bachelor’s degree from UW-Stevens Point in business administration. Married to my wife, Ashley, and we have two boys, Hudson and Jack. I have been a police officer for city of Shawano since 2014. I am a member of the Shawano Drug Task Force and Special Response Team.
Most significant issue facing county government: I believe we have a shortage of deputies and jail staff in Shawano County. We have a significant need for additional resources for those employees in law enforcement.
Most significant issue for residents: Being in law enforcement, I obviously see the problems of drug abuse on a first-hand basis. Drug abuse causes many issues for our residents, which includes impaired drivers, burglaries, theft, damage to properties and trespassing, etc.
Why should voters choose you over your opponent: I am committed to Shawano County. I fully intend to continue raising my family here. I would love the opportunity to help make Shawano County a safer and better place to live, work and play.
