The former Final Lap tavern at 114 S. Main St. will become Bubba’s BBQ Co. early next year, after the Shawano Common Council on Wednesday gave its approval for a beer and liquor license.
Owner Brian Johnson said he wanted to bring “Texas-style barbecue” to the city. The full-service restaurant is expected to be open by mid-January or February at the latest, according to Johnson.
Earlier this year, the city denied renewal of a liquor license to the owner of the Final Lap, Sheila Davis, citing numerous violations at the establishment, including unlicensed bartenders, according to police.
“There’s no affiliation,” Johnson noted to the council Wednesday before his license application was approved.
The tavern has been vacant since July, when Davis’ license expired.
