Change is needed at Pulaski schools

To the editor: Pulaski Community School District continues down a dysfunctional path with their lack of transparency, honesty and accountability for any of their bad decisions over many years, recently with the termination/resignation of Superintendent Milt Thompson. Open records revealed vague reasoning to terminate Mr. Thompson. Does the school district do computer audits on all staff or just Mr. Thompson? Honesty/disloyalty by our superintendent was a constant reason; this is no different for our School Board members, yet they continue to hold office. Time line of most of the alleged infractions by Mr. Thompson started in August 2014 after a two-year contract was signed in April 2014. Ms. Bec Kurzynske achieved her superintendent licensure in 2014, and her title changed to assistant superintendent on Aug. 20, 2014. Was the board trying to find excuses to push Mr. Thompson out and put Ms. Kurzynske in his place, and at a tremendous cost to the taxpayers? Both Kurzynske and Thompson were involved in the meetings with the students’ parents in regards to the fighting incident that occurred at school. Yet Ms. Kurzynske gets promoted to interim superintendent; Mr. Thompson is forced to resign. At the July 15 PCSD open session meeting with four members present, a prepared statement was read that the board has full faith in Interim Superintendent Kurzynske. The outcome of the closed session with now five board members present was a vote to maintain Kurzynske for the 2015-2016 school year, and reassign duties and use stipends because of the additional responsibility of the interim superintendent and additional duties of staff. Motions and voting arising from closed session should be brought into open session to ensure there would be a public record of the vote, but instead Pulaski Schools sent out a news release to media. I am not in favor of Bec Kurzynske as interim superintendent for the above reasons. She will continue to be an extension of the failed Pulaski School Board. Unless we replace School Board members and look outside for a new superintendent, nothing will change in the Pulaski School District. Beth Trudell, Little Suamico
