Jake Luepke pitched six scoreless innings and allowed only three hits Wednesday in a 10-0 six-inning Bonduel victory over Marion/Tigerton in an American Legion game at Jack Reinke Field in Bonduel.
Luepke struck out five batters, including three in a 1-2-3 second inning, and walked only one.
“Jake pitched a strong game once again for us to keep them with no runs,” Bonduel coach Jason Luepke said.
With Bonduel leading 9-0, Kody Reinke scored the game-ending run after hitting a double to right field, advancing to third on a Lloyd Allen ground out and scoring on a Logan Artis grounder to the shortstop.
With two outs already on the board, Artis reached on an overthrow at first base as Reinke headed home.
Reinke also hit a two-run single in a five-run fourth inning.
Bonduel (6-3) had single runs in the fifth and third and scored twice in the second.
Marion/Tigerton (0-5) committed three errors in the game and struggled on the mound. Justin Miller took the loss, pitching 3 1/3 innings.
He allowed eight runs, two earned, on five hits, walked six and struck out four. Tyler Marquardt took over, pitching the final 2 1/3 innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on five hits while striking out one and walking two.
Tyler Berg, Sam Peterson and Travis Marquardt had Marion/Tigerton’s hits.
Hunter Vanderlinden led Bonduel at the plate, going three for four. Reinke finished two for four with two RBIs. Connor Rosin, Dakota Knueppel, Jake Luepke, Jacob Wudtke and Artis also had hits.
“I believe we needed to hit the ball,” Jason Luepke said. “Hitting can be contagious. I think everyone down the lineup hit the ball well.”
That will be key as Bonduel tries to go 2-0 this week to prepare for next week’s regional tournament.
“We need this game and Friday’s game to be big wins to propel us into the regional,” Luepke said.
