If the Packerland Conference is going to be like the opener, fans of the Bonduel and Oconto Falls football teams can count on a successful season.
Bonduel handed Kewaunee a 28-22 loss Sept. 4 in the conference opener for both teams, while the Panthers opened Packerland play with a 26-7 home win over Oconto in the Battle of Highway 22 game.
Meanwhile, Suring and Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas Academy picked up Marinette and Oconto-8 8-player wins Sept. 3 with victories over Goodman/Pembine and Wausaukee, respectively.
Bonduel 28, Kewaunee 22
All seven of the game’s touchdowns came in the first half.
Carter Moesch scored the first of his four rushing touchdowns for the Bears on a 2-yard run before adding a 9-yard run with 3:32 left in the first quarter that gave Bonduel a 14-0 lead.
Kewaunee answered on its next drive with Diesel Bosdeck’s 59-yard quarterback keeper, but Moesch added touchdown runs of 54 and 56 yards that gave the Bears a 28-7 lead in the second quarter.
The Storm scored twice in the final three minutes of the first half to cut the lead to six points. Bosdeck connected with Mason Kovacs on a 17-yard pass that made it 28-15, and Dane Harrell returned a mishandled punt snap 45 yards on the final play of the first half that also turned out to be the final score of the game.
Kewaunee had a chance to tie or take the lead late in the game, as the Storm reached the Bonduel 15-yard line, but Bosdeck’s pass on fourth down with 15 seconds to go fell incomplete.
Bonduel had a pair of 100-yard rushers, as Moesch led the way with 159 yards on 13 carries, and Malachi Gray added 125 on 11 rushes.
Bonduel’s passing wasn’t a factor in the game, as Quinn Wesenberg completed two of seven attempts for 16 yards.
Bosdeck completed 15 of 18 passes for 114 yards, including six completions to Kovacs for 72 yards. Blake Temme led Kewaunee rushers with 87 yards in 18 carries.
Bonduel improved to 3-0, and the Storm fell to 1-2.
Oconto Falls 26, Oconto 7
The Panthers improved to 2-1 overall with a win over the Blue Devils at ST Paper Stadium.
It was the first Packerland Conference win for Oconto Falls, which moved from the Northwoods Conference this season.
Winneconne 34, Shawano 7
The defending WIAA Division 4 state champions handed the Hawks their second loss of the season.
Winneconne was inside the Shawano 1-yard line on the game’s opening drive but had to settle for Andrew Dorn’s 23-yard field goal.
The Wolves added a pair of touchdowns in the second quarter on Henry Chase’s passes of 38 yards to Drew Lenz and 66 yards to Ryan Quigley with 17 seconds to go in the first half.
Camden Plotz made it 24-0 with a 2-yard touchdown run with 4:05 remaining in the third quarter, Dorn added a 22-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter, and Lenz capped Winneconne’s scoring with a 4-yard run with 7:39 to go in the game.
Shawano’s touchdown came on Deacan Wizner’s 8-yard run with 1:45 remaining.
Bay Port 46, Pulaski 0
The Pirates led 14-0 after one quarter, 26-0 at halftime and 32-0 after three quarters before scoring two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter as Bay Port handed Pulaski its first loss of the season.
Bohdan Schmidt finished with 77 of the Red Raiders’ 123 rushing yards, while Anthony Ficarri added 44.
Bay Port also held Pulaski to 15 passing yards; finished with 518 yards of offense, including 398 through the air, and had touchdown passes of 94 and 79 yards.
Suring 56, Goodman/Pembine 6
Suring headed to Goodman to face the Patriots and returned home with its third win over the season.
Taylor Booth-Stoffregen completed all three of his passes for 111 yards, including a 50-yard touchdown to Dayne Ermis.
Kroix Kempka added 96 rushing yards and three scores on the ground.
The Eagles have now outscored their three opponents 173-20.
Lena/STAA 58, Wausaukee 0
Lena/STAA shut out the Rangers in Wausaukee for the Titans’ second straight win.
Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah 41, Marion/Tigerton 6
Marion/Tigerton’s 8-player home game against Bowler/Gresham in Marion previously scheduled for Sept. 4 was cancelled.
Bowler/Gresham recently opted out of a varsity schedule for the 2026 season for the third year in row but will have a junior varsity team.
Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah was originally scheduled to play Gillett, which cancelled its varsity program for this season.
