Board approves staffing changes

The Oconto Falls School Board on June 8 approved hiring Hannah Zidon, Spanish teacher at Oconto Falls High School, and the retirement of library media specialist Marsha Mellen. Resignation requests were approved for Joanna Gross, elementary teacher at Abrams; Cathy Ehlert, elementary guidance teacher at Abrams; and Bret Iverson, agriculture teacher at WMS. The resignation of Tania LaChapell-Wusterbarth, special education teacher at Washington Middle School, also was approved, and a handful of parents and teachers spoke to the board about the good she did as a teacher. The School Board named Danny Smith assistant principal at Oconto Falls High School. He joined the high school staff as dean of students in October 2014, and his contract as assistant principal will run from July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2017. His salary has not been determined. According to Superintendent Dave Polashek, the change will allow Smith to provide more instructional leadership and assist the building principal with teacher professional development as part of the district’s Educator Effectiveness initiative. The School Board postponed action on the appointment of WMS Dean of Students Lucas Cromell as assistant principal. The appointment is scheduled to be reconsidered as early as July 20.
