Barbara Nernberger

Our beautiful mother, Barbara Ellen Nernberger (Kunschke), 72, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013. Barb, the daughter of Gladys and Eldor Kunschke, was born in Shawano on Oct. 15, 1941. She was a 1959 graduate of Shawano High School. Barb married Eugene Knoke on Jan. 21, 1961. They made their home in Shawano and relocated to Green Bay. Together they had three children, Gina, Anthony and Rodney. Barb later lived in Crivitz, where she made many wonderful friends. She loved Elvis, the Packers and golfing. Barb was very active — even through her illness she golfed several times a week and attended exercise classes. She especially loved vacationing in Branson, Mo., and the two trips she took to Arizona. Survivors include her children, Gina (Mark) Leahy, Anthony (Terry) Knoke and Rodney Knoke; and grandchildren, Alyssa and Kelsey Leahy and Aaron and Alex Knoke. Barb was preceded in death by her mother, Gladys, and her sister, Renee Kunschke. Family and friends may call Saturday, Oct. 19, at Newcomer Funeral Home, 340 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay, from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11:30 a.m. To leave a special message for Barb’s family, please visit, www.NewcomerGreenBay.com. Barb’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and staff at Aurora Hospitals in Marinette and Green Bay, Vince Lombardi Cancer Center, Aurora VNA, SouthernCare Hospice, Home Instead Senior Care, and Kindred San Luis, for their kindness and compassion. Mom, rest in peace. You will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts.
