Arthur Jaeger, 96, Green Bay, died Saturday, Aug. 1, 2015, at Woodside Lutheran Nursing Home. He was born on Jan. 24, 1919, in the town of Gillett to Adolph and Hulda (Schlock) Jaeger.
Art worked hard his whole life, starting at his family farm and as a hired hand for others, also working at two enlistments at the Civilian Conservation Corps camps and a canning factory, all before being drafted in the U.S. Army in September 1941 until November 1945. He was proud to serve during the invasion of Attu, which was a Japanese-occupied Aleutian Island. Art remained there for nearly two years. After returning home from the Army, he was hired by Northern Paper Mill where he became a state certified Class A welder until his retirement in June 1982.
On Dec. 30, 1944, Art married Arlene Krause in Oconto Falls. They celebrated 70 years of marriage this last December. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating on White Potato Lake, spending time at the cottage with his children and grandchildren and cheering on the Packers. He especially liked taking walks with the grandchildren to get ice cream and play at the park. Art loved any chance that he got to hold his great-grandchildren. He will always be remembered for being eager to help anyone who asked for his advice or help on a project.
Art was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church for over 50 years. His faith was very important to him throughout his life.
Art is survived by his wife, Arlene; five sons, Don and Sheila Jaeger, Wayne Jaeger, Ken Jaeger and his special friend, Lisa, Larry Jaeger and his special friend, Diane, Doug Jaeger and his special friend, Traci; five grandchildren, Heather and Josh Walter, Lydia Jaeger and her special friend, Matt, Stephanie and Alex Jerabek, Justin Jaeger and his special friend, Alicia, Josh Jaeger and his special friend, Tiffany; five great-grandchildren, Nolan and Kennedy Walter, Danielle and Jared Krentz, and Kallie Jaeger; a sister, Jeanette Loberger; four sisters-in-law, Irene Jaeger, Sally Vanden Bush, Deloris Van Laarhoven and Betty Hudson; and a brother-in-law, Ken Krause.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Jessica Jaeger; a sister, Alma (Lloyd) Ollman; five brothers, Louis (Wilma) Jaeger, Walter Jaeger, Emil Jaeger, Arnold (Delores) Jaeger and Clarence (Dorothea) Jaeger; and three brothers-in-law, Harlan Loberger, Joe Vanden Bush and Jake Van Laarhoven.
Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., Green Bay, from 4-8 p.m. Thursday. Friends may also call at Calvary Lutheran Church, 1301 S. Ridge Road, Green Bay, from 10-11 a.m. Friday. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Earl Vorpagel III officiating. Burial will be in Nicolet Memorial Gardens.
