Shawano County’s 4-H youth leaders challenged all county 4-H clubs to collect and donate new and gently used books.
Clubs demonstrated extreme generosity and competitiveness as they donated over 5,000 books.
Clubs were given March and April to collect books. The club that donated the most books per member would be declared the winner and awarded an ice cream sundae party. Competition was fierce with many lead changes over March and April.
Wolf River 4-H was the winner of the book drive, boasting more than 59 books donated per enrolled 4-H member.
Coming in second was the Pella Eagles 4-H, and third was Tilleda 4-H.
Originally, the books were designated to be shared with Safe Haven, Shawano Area Matthew 25 and the Eagles Nest. Given the generosity, the Shawano 4-H Youth Leaders were able to donate to original recipients, as well as to NEWCAP, local day cares, nursing homes, Little Free Libraries and the Shawano County Jail.
