2 longtime county workers retire

Two veteran Shawano County employees are retiring after careers covering a combined 60 years in county government. Linda Waggoner, director of the Women, Infants and Children program in the health department, recently retired after 29 years on the job. Waggoner, who was honored at a recent County Board meeting, oversaw an increase of from 400 to 700 low-income families served by the WIC program locally. Kathy Sumnicht, the longtime office manager in the sheriff’s department, also is retiring. She has been with the county for 32 years, including the past 23 years in the sheriff’s department. In her retirement announcement, Sumnicht wrote that she enjoyed working in the sheriff’s department with “a wonderful and hardworking staff.”
