Holiday plans unclear because of surgery

Even after three weeks of not having to go anywhere, except for a doctor’s appointment, I still sometimes wake up and wonder what I am doing today. Is this the day my friend comes to shower me? Can I just roll over and go back to sleep? While I am allowed to go places, I need help in getting out of the house. I need someone to put the ramp down, get me down it safely and take me outside to enjoy the weather, or get me in a vehicle and drive me somewhere. It is not something I can do on the spur of the moment as in times of old. Tomorrow, I look forward to the doctor’s appointment to find out how my recovery is coming along. I think it is going along well, but an X-ray and taking out the stitches will show the reality of the situation. Meanwhile, when people who can help me are here, I explore the house and sit in chairs that don’t have wheels, or recline. Of course, the result of that is usually needing help in getting back up out of that chair, so I know I can’t do it when I am alone. Another thing I am looking forward to is getting out in Tigerton for the Fourth of July celebration at the park and the fireworks in the evening. Will I get there? Can’t say for sure, as it is only if someone gets me there, for one or the other, but both would be good. Somehow, it seems like summer just began, but with the Fourth of July upon us, it seems like it is on its way and going fast. Is the corn knee high? At this time I don’t know, as there are no corn fields near, and I haven’t left the house for two weeks. I can’t see the few flowers that two of my granddaughters planted, so it will be nice to see how they are doing as we drive in and out of the driveway. At this point, I can’t get to the windows that show the flower beds, but I am on the mend, and I know it will happen. I also know there are weeds, there is long grass, there is even old growth from last fall that did not get cleared away this spring. I don’t like to see that, but I know it is there. Hopefully I will be able to tackle it next spring. Yes, the lawn gets clipped by one of my granddaughters, but those little touches that I like to do will have to wait for another day and time. Meanwhile, celebrating the Fourth of July can be done in many ways. As a youngster I remember sitting on a tractor and raking hay, then taking in a huge fireworks display in the village of Embarrass. As a farm wife, I also remember sitting on a tractor, raking hay, or perhaps packing bales in the hay mow. I really didn’t mind haying in the summer; it already was hot, a person may as well be working up a sweat, so I could enjoy a nice shower afterward. That really isn’t what the Fourth of July is all about. It’s about those who fought for the freedoms that our country has — first, in the Revolutionary War, and all the wars that have been fought since. There are disagreements, but this is a country where we can have disagreements and not be punished for them. God bless the USA!
