The Shawano Hockey League finally has the two-year extension it’s been seeking for months.
The county’s public property committee reaffirmed an extension of the current three-year lease at its Aug. 14 meeting. The hockey league is about to enter the second year of that current lease for use of the Crawford Center.
In July, the committee agreed to the extension if the hockey league removed statements from a letter in which it denied guilt for past damages at the building.
The hockey league board of directors agreed to pay tens of thousands of dollars in damage to doors and walls at the Crawford Center while denying some of the damage was their fault.
With those statements removed, the committee reaffirmed the two-year extension.
To avoid future issues of who is at fault for any damages to the building, Shawano Hockey League President Adam Gafner said he and Nate Hesse, the county’s director of facilities and grounds, agreed to a more formalized check-in and check-out at the start and end of the lease period.
Both sides agreed that process was lackluster in prior years.
Gafner said the new process will protect both sides and ensure situations like this don’t happen again.
