Gresham senior Madolyn Haffner was among four girls to make it to the semifinals in the 2024 WIAA Girls 3-Point Challenge on March 9 in Ashwaubenon.
Lindsey Schadewalt of New Glarus won the challenge and set a new record for total points.
Ten participants were selected for the event based on stats information entered by coaches into the WisSports.net database. The top two 3-point shooters (with a minimum 75 attempts) from each division were chosen to participate.
In Division 5, Haffner made 59 of 120 attempts for a 49.2% success rate. Placing second was Reese Grimm of Pittsville, who made 51 of 110 for 46.4%.
At the challenge at the Resch Center prior to the 2024 championship games, Schadewalt, a senior, finished each of the three rounds as the top scorer during the event, posting 20 points in the opening quarterfinal round, 20 again in the semifinals and 22 in the final round. Her total score of 62 set a new event record, surpassing two-time champion Emily Jaenke’s of Fox Valley Lutheran, who scored 59 total points in last season’s event.
Haffner, a senior, made 18 in the first round, 17 in the semifinals but then missed the finals.
This year’s event was the first in the 10 years that every shooter scored in double figures in the opening round.
Each girl shot five balls from the same five points on the court.
