Gillett resident Bruce Windorski, reported missing on Oct. 17, was located on the evening of Nov. 4, according to a statement released by the Gillett Police Department.
“He’s safe and well, for the most part, and is reunited with his family,” Police Chief Jess Keplinger announced at Thursday’s City Council meeting.
Keplinger said the case drew national attention. He did not disclose where Windorski was located or how contact with his family was re-established.
Windorski, a former Army Ranger, was reported missing by his wife, Courtney, after he failed to attend a planned gathering of friends and didn’t return home.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice put out an alert Oct. 24, saying Windorski suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder and had not been taking his medications. According to authorities, a signal from his cell phone was picked up Oct. 18 by a tower located in the town of Thornfield in Ozark County, Missouri.
Windorski, who is also a former Menominee Tribal Police officer, is one of several Americans who traveled to Syria earlier this year on his own to fight ISIS.
