The 10th annual Lions Region 2 golf outing was held May 30 at DeSmidt’s Golf Course and Country Club in Crivitz.
The team fielded by the Coleman-Pound Lions took top honors and the championship mugs. The Love to Golf foursome based in Appleton finished second.
One of the strangest stories from this year’s golf outing was not about a hole-in-one or some other outstanding shot, but rather had to do with a lost ball — or more specifically about a stolen ball. Dave Litkey, of Green Bay, hit a nice shot onto the green. A red fox running on the course spotted the bouncing ball, retrieved it and ran off with it, never to be seen again.
Representatives from 10 local Lions clubs participated. There also were 15 hole sponsors, including the Oconto Falls Lions. Each of the hole sponsors was recognized with an attractive sign at the appropriate tee.
The proceeds of the event go to support the Wisconsin Lion Camp. Over the years, the event has raised more than $30,000. This year’s check was for about $2,500.
