Wisconsin had five days suitable for fieldwork statewide for the week ending June 28, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
Herbicide and fertilizer applications continued, hay was cut where fields were dry enough, and cranberries were in bloom.
Topsoil moisture condition rated 1% very short, 9% short, 79% adequate and 11% surplus. Subsoil moisture condition rated 1% very short, 13% short, 76% adequate and 10% surplus.
Corn condition was 82% good to excellent, up 1 percentage point from last week. Soybeans were 8% blooming, equal to the 5-year average. Soybean condition was 78% good to excellent, down 1 percentage point from last week.
Oats were 64% headed compared to the average of 66%. Oats were 12% coloring. Oat condition was rated 82% good to excellent, unchanged from last week. Winter wheat fields were 96% headed. Winter wheat was 50% coloring, 1 percentage point ahead of the average. Winter wheat condition was 79% good to excellent, unchanged from last week.
The first cutting of alfalfa hay was 97% complete. The second cutting of alfalfa hay was 29% complete compared to the average of 25%. All hay condition was 74% good to excellent, down 2 percentage points from last week.
Pasture and range condition was 65% good to excellent, down 1 percentage point from last week.
