To the editor:
Much to my surprise, it appears that it has been decided to charge two local area teens with a felony for a prank that they made on a teacher there at their school.
Sadly enough, again hindsight is always better than foresight, even though it (the incident) was intended to be nothing more than a joke. I understand that the prank did lead to the aforementioned teacher requiring medical attention, but I am certain that this was not intended, whatsoever.
I also understand that punishment is due for the said “prank,” but if convicted of a felony, the lives of these teens could very easily lead to total ruin and that their futures be forever altered.
I am not saying that this letter to the editor is an OK for actions like this to happen without consequence, I am just saying that maybe lengthy community service hours could serve just as well as (or better than) lengthy prison terms, and that this incident should be re-evaluated at the administrative level.
