Close to 1,200 eighth grade students from Shawano, Waupaca, Oconto and Outagamie counties recently had a special opportunity to delve into the world of work at the annual Eighth Grade Career Exploration career fair.
The event, held April 21 at Clintonville High School, brought together 52 businesses and organizations from various sectors, offering students a firsthand look at potential career paths.
Students engaged with professionals from fields ranging from health care and manufacturing to technology and the skilled trades. Interactive displays and conversations allowed the young learners to ask questions, learn about required skills and education, and participate in hands-on activities.
“Think of this fair as the starting point for a rewarding career close to home, as well as a funnel for our future workforce,” said Suzanne Wittman, president and CEO of the Shawano Country Chamber of Commerce. “Also, this event encouraged students to step away from their screens and build the essential face-to-face communication skills that the younger generation often finds challenging.”
The Shawano Country Chamber, Clintonville Area Chamber, Fox Valley Technical College and Clintonville School District have provided this opportunity to students for more than 25 years.
