Douglas A. “Doug” Rogers, 61, of Shawano, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday morning, Jan. 30, 2021, with his wife, Victoria, at his side. Doug fought hard, but lost his courageous battle with cancer. Doug was born Jan. 24, 1960, in Clintonville, a son of Lillian (Kirby) Rogers and the late Freeman Rogers. He attended school in Clintonville, graduating from Clintonville High School in 1978. Following school, Doug attended the Transamerican Broadcasting School in Wausau. He was granted his broadcast license by the Federal Communication Commission on March 16, 1979. Thus began a long and illustrious career in broadcasting. Doug started his play-by-play career in Merrill. For a short time we worked for WNBK in New London, before returning to Merrill. His true adventure started in 1984 when he moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming. Doug was live on air for KUUY, broadcasting the play-by-play action for Cheyenne Central High School and Cheyenne East High School, as well as Laramie County Community College. He was also known for doing daily trivia on air. In 1986, Doug ultimately met his wife and soulmate on air, as she knew all the answers to his trivia questions. Thus began a lifelong bond with his future wife, Victoria Louk. Doug and Victoria moved back to Clintonville in January 1991, where Doug worked for WJMQ. The couple was married on July 21, 2003, in Waupaca. A staple on air with Results Broadcasting, Doug has earned and been the recipient of numerous broadcast awards from the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association. On Thursday, Jan. 28, 2021, he received a citation from the Wisconsin State Legislature recognizing him for five decades on air, and for contributing to the betterment of the state of Wisconsin. Doug’s work was his hobby. He was a Wisconsin Badgers fan through and through. He enjoyed the Packers and Brewers, but in his mind, nothing compared to Badgers Sports. Doug is a lifelong member of Clintonville United Methodist Church. He was an animal lover and flower gardener. Doug is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Victoria, of Shawano; his mother, Lillian Rogers, of Clintonville; three brothers, Michael (Leah) Rogers, of Hortonville, Brent (Sue) Rogers, of Marion, and Scott (Tammy) Rogers, of Embarrass; his father-in-law, Robert Davidson, of Bassett, Virginia; his brother-in-law, Vernon (Karen) Louk, of Bridgeport, West Virginia; his sister-in-law, Debra (Jess) Allison, of Benton City, Washington; five nieces and one nephew; and numerous on-air friends and fans. Private family services for Doug have been held. However, a public gathering is tentatively scheduled to be held when the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted. In lieu of flowers and plants, a memorial fund for Doug has been established by his friends at Results Broadcasting.
