The Wisconsin Department of Transportation Northeast Region has announced a new U.S. Highway 141 design project website is now available to view proposed improvements on the highway between the state Highway 22 interchange in Oconto County and the state Highway 64 interchange in Marinette County.
DOT is seeking public comment on the proposed improvement project’s scope, schedule, and traffic impacts and provide comments before the final design. There is a comment form on the website, https://wisconsindot.gov/Pages/projects/by-region/ne/us141kv22to64/defau..., with a prepaid mailer to reply to the project team.
The website includes maps of the project limits and location, scope and schedule, traffic impacts, displays and exhibits, and resources for business in work zones.
The project aims to improve the safety of Highway 141 and eliminate the severity of pavement heaving during the winter months. The heaving is caused when ice forms under the pavement.
Proposed improvements include removing sections of the existing concrete pavement on Highway 141 at 15locations between highways 22 and 64 for frost heave mitigation. Crews will excavate four feet below the pavement surface to remove frost-susceptible soils and prevent reoccurrence. Work also includes resurfacing of two railroad crossings in the project limits.
Construction is currently scheduled for 2028. Highway 141 will remain open for construction using flagging and lane closures. County Road A and County Road B will be closed and detoured during work on intersection ramps.
