Dorothy Waelchli, 91, of Shawano, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 19, 2015, at the Shawano Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. Born on Sept. 10, 1923, in Fort Atkinson, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Matilda (Florine) Eckhart.
On Nov. 15, 1942, Dorothy was united in marriage to Clarence R. Waelchli in Fort Atkinson. After marriage the couple lived in the town of Belle Plaine. Dorothy was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church Stony Hill, where she enjoyed being an active member of the Ladies Aid and the Lutheran Women Missionary League. She enjoyed traveling, canning, sewing and crocheting. She crocheted an afghan for every one of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In her earlier years Dorothy liked to play cards and read, and especially enjoyed reading inspirational stories. She was also a member of the Shawano County Homemakers for over 50 years. Dorothy was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend who will be missed by all who knew her.
Dorothy is survived by four daughters, Phyllis Brodhagen, of Wausau, Judy (Orville) Westphal, of Shawano, Betty (LeRoy) Raddant, of Shawano, and Jean (Milton) Brusewitz, of Bonduel; a daughter-in-law, Susan Waelchli, of Shawano; 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren (with number 30 on the way); and six great-great-grandchildren. She is further survived by foster sisters-in-law, Kathy (Marlyn) Teetzen and Gloria Blonde, of Shawano; as well as a foster brother-in-law, Carl Nelson, of Alabama.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; her son, Allan; a grandson, James Brodhagen; her parents; two brothers, George and Robert; sisters-in-law, Helen Marie Krause, Arlene Salzmann and Gracie Eckhart; brothers-in-law, Vilas Krause and Lloyd Salzmann; a foster brother-in-law, Merlyn “Butch” Blonde; and a foster sister-in-law, Millie Blonde Nelson.
A funeral service for Dorothy was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2015, at St. Paul Lutheran Church Stony Hill with the Rev. John C. Eyer officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Visitation was held at the church on Tuesday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church Stony Hill.
