Doris A. Schroeder, 97, Wittenberg, died Monday, July 8, 2013, under the care of AseraCare Hospice at Homme Home of Wittenberg. She was born March 1, 1916, in the town of Morris, Shawano County, the daughter of the late Richard and Ida (Kanaman) Spiegel. On June 9, 1934, Doris was united in marriage to Walter Schroeder in the town of Morris. He preceded her in death on Dec. 31, 1972. Doris worked as a nurse’s aide and cook at Cady Home, Birnamwood. She loved family gatherings and traveling, especially to Florida and New Mexico. She was a Jehovah’s Witness and was an avid Bible reader. Doris enjoyed gardening and her garden was one of the highlights of her life. She was a great baker and made the best apple pie and was awarded many ribbons. Doris is survived by her children, Donna (Reily) Mills, Lakeland, Fla., Pat (Arlen) Warning, Weston, Karen Zamora, Albuquerque, N.M., Donald (Sandi) Schroeder, St. Augustine, Fla., Cathy (Michael) Flamingo, Wausau, Mark (Becky) Schroeder, St. Augustine, Fla., and Randy (Jen) Schroeder, Shawano; daughter-in-law, Sharyn Schroeder, Birnamwood; son-in-law, Omar Hubbard; 28 grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Edna Roberts, Three Lakes. In addition to her husband and parents, Doris was preceded in death by a daughter, Joanne Hubbard; a son, Larry Schroeder; a granddaughter, Cheryl Gunelius; and 10 brothers and sisters. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2013, at Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Birnamwood. Walter Kalman will officiate. Interment will be in Forest Cemetery, Birnamwood.
