Donald A. Jahnke, 77, Bowler, died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013, at his home. He was born on Oct. 18, 1936, in Chicago.
On Nov. 14, 1964, Don was united in marriage to Ann Sweet in Parris Island, S.C. She preceded him in death on March 24, 1998. On July 28, 2001, Don married Elizabeth Toy at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Bowler. She survives. Don retired from the U.S. Navy, where he worked as a physician’s assistant. He was devoted to serving his community and country. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Bowler, the Davenport-Lang American Legion Post 414 and is a National Sous Directeur of Membership of the 40 et 8 organization. He enjoyed spending time with Elizabeth and his family and loved his pets.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Jahnke, Bowler; six children, Donald Jahnke Jr., Omro, Thomas (Cathy) Jahnke, Las Vegas, Jason (Jessica Duncan) Markgraff, Madison, Paul (Beth) Markgraff, Milton, Sara (Kale) Strohbusch, Watertown, and Robert Garlik, Sugar Grove, Ill.; two grandchildren, Maci Susan and Jackson Steven; and two sisters, Kay (Bernie) Petosa, Mount Prospect, Ill., and Patricia (Don) Nelson, Morton Grove, Ill. He is also survived by other relatives and many friends.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 8, 2013, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Bowler. The Rev. Michael Schram will officiate. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, town of Almon, Shawano County, with military rites conducted by Davenport-Lang American Legion Post 414. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Wittenberg, and on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be a military service by the 40 et 8 organization at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
