Oconto County will begin collecting $50 from individuals picked up on outstanding warrants and transported to the Oconto County Jail from outside the county.
The Oconto County Board on Thursday amended its jail facility fees, which included the new transportation fee.
Jail Administrator Carol Kopp said other counties in the state already charge for transportation, sometimes setting a per-mile rate. Oconto County will charge a flat fee of $50 per trip. The charge will apply to people arrested for failure to appear for court dates and failure to pay fines.
The board also increased its per-day fees for inmates from $11 to $16. Kopp said a survey showed surrounding counties were charging $20 to $30.
Fees also increased from $11 to $16 for inmates housed at the jail due to municipal warrants.
The new fee schedule also includes a $25 fee for second and subsequent drug tests for inmates with Huber privileges. If the inmates fail their first drug test, preventing them from being released to go to work, they can be tested again after two weeks and will be charged $25.
