Cecil, Bonduel win Dairyland openers

BABA ready to begin division play May 10

Cecil and Bonduel opened Dairyland League baseball play with road wins May 3.

Bonduel handed Nichols a 22-5 loss, while Cecil topped Marinette 8-5 in the first weekend of games.

Meanwhile, BABA teams will open division play May 10.

Dairyland

Cecil 8, Marinette 5

The Mudhens headed to Marinette and returned home with a win over the Redbirds.

Jake Sager, Reese Stoltenow and Brodie Hartman combined for six of Cecil’s 11 hits while scoring two runs and adding three RBIs.

The Mudhens opened the scoring in the top of the fourth inning after Braden Uelmen grounded into a fielder’s choice and Hartman singled to center field.

The Redbirds tied the game in the bottom half of the inning on an error and Joey Olsen’s fielder’s choice. Marinette then took a 3-2 lead in the next inning on Braeden McMahon’s RBI single.

Cecil responded by scoring five runs on three hits in the seventh to go up 7-3.

Noah Beilfuss pitched the first six innings for Cecil but didn’t get a decision after giving up five hits and three runs with four strikeouts and four walks.

Jake McMahon took the loss for the Redbirds after giving up seven hits and two runs over six innings while striking out 10 batters.

Mason Meverden relieved Beilfuss and ended up with the win.

Stoltenow, the Mudhens’ No. 9 hitter, led the team with three hits in four at-bats. Jake Sager, Uelmen, Isaac Boldt, Stoltenow and Hartman each drove in a run for Cecil.

Bonduel 22, Nichols 5 (7 inn.)

Riley Susa’s five RBIs and four hits helped Bonduel cruise to a road win over the Nitros.

Susa drove in three runs with a single in the fifth inning and added a pair of run-scoring singles in the second.

Easton Reinke’s RBI groundout in the first inning opened the scoring for the Broncos.

Bonduel added nine runs on seven hits in the second. Besides Susa’s two RBI singles, Noah Weier drove in a run after getting hit by a pitch; Chase Reinke and Adam Frost had RBI singles; Reinke drove in two runs on a fielder’s choice play; and two more runs scored on a Nichols error.

The Broncos scored six runs in the fifth on only one hit. Reinke, Race Anvelink and Wyatt Reinke drove in a run with a bases-loaded walk; and Susa added his three-run single.

Jett Thielke and Grant Maus combined to hold the Nitros to five runs. Maus gave up four runs in relief, and Thielke allowed three hits and a run over three innings.

Bonduel had 15 hits. Wyatt Reinke, Jack Reinke, Eric Gruenewald and Frost had multiple hits, and the team drew 14 walks.

Waupaca 5, Hofa Park 1

Hofa Park opened league play at home but ended up on the short end of a 5-1 score to the Lakemen.

Waupaca took a 3-0 lead after coming up with a run in the top of the fourth inning and adding two more runs in the sixth.

The Panthers cut into the lead with a run in the eighth, but Waupaca added a pair of insurance runs in the ninth and outhit the Panthers 16-4.

Luke Behm, Brendan Canterbury and Dawson Bohm had three hits each to lead Waupaca.

Hortonville 14, Pulaski 4 (7 inn.)

Dan Wunderlich led Hortonville with three hits, three RBIs and two runs scored and opened the scoring with a two-run double in the bottom of the first inning in Hortonville.

Chris Atwood picked up the win on the mound for the Stars.
