Carl W. Dittman

Carl W. Dittman, 90, of Gillett, passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2022. Carl was born on May 5, 1932, on the family farm near Berry Lake. He was the youngest son of the late Charlie and Ottilia (Dirks) Dittman. Carl attended the Lutheran High School of Milwaukee. He continued his education at Concordia University, where he received an associate’s degree in liberal arts. Carl enlisted in the United States Coast Guard and served during the end of the Korean War. On May 3, 1958, he married his sweetheart, Mavis Giese at Christ Lutheran Church in Hintz. Carl was a hardworking farmer and he was employed by the Shawano Paper Mill for 30 years, retiring in 1998. In retirement, Carl enjoyed cutting wood and being outdoors, woodworking, spending time with family, reading, growing tomatoes, and watching the field crops grow until harvest. Carl was a lifelong member of Christ Lutheran Church in Hintz. Carl is survived by his children, Dawn (Ted), Gail, and Kyle (Deann) Dittman and Lynn (Stuart) Giese; grandchildren, Aaron and Marissa Dittman; sister, Marian (Kenneth) Montour; and sisters-in-law, Zoe Dittman and Lorraine Giese. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends. Carl was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Mavis; his son, Brian Dittman; and his brother, Paul Dittman. Visitation will be held at Christ Lutheran Church in Hintz on Saturday, October 29, 2022 from 9 a.m. until the memorial service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Michael Paholke officiating.
