Bonduel unstoppable in 46-21 victory

Whether it was Blake Stoss, Preston Robaidek or Jordan Boldt, the Bonduel Bears running game had its way with visiting Weyauwega-Fremont in their high school football game Saturday in Shawano. Bonduel (5-2, 3-2 Central Wisconsin Conference-8) piled up 432 rushing yards en route to a 46-21 victory over the Indians (2-5, 2-3 CWC-8). Sophomore reserve quarterback Jordan Boldt recorded 75 yards on five carries, including a 61-yard touchdown run. Robaidek had a 70-yard touchdown in the first quarter and a 69-yard run in the third quarter, which extended the Bonduel lead to 33 points. “I thought the guys played a little more down hill, a little more intensity,” Bonduel assistant coach Dave LaBerge said after the game, which head coach James Westrich was unable to attend. “We were a little worried with how the kids were going to come out, but they came out with the intensity we needed. We set the tone early and kind of got it rolling.” After scoring first, Bonduel chipped the ensuing kickoff downfield due to the high winds and was able to recover the ball in the Indians’ territory. The Bears fumbled the ball, but controlled the remainder of the half, forcing three turnovers on downs and two punts. Offensively, the line continued to open holes for Bonduel’s runners. Robaidek finished the game with six carries for 143 yards and the two scores. Stoss, his backfield counterpart, tallied 144 yards on 21 carries and three touchdowns. Bonduel senior quarterback Trevor Pedersen left the game on the final drive of the third quarter, with Parker Bohm filling in for the remainder of the game. “We kind of simplified the scheme this week,” LaBerge said, “had the guys play a little more man coverage and just let the kids play a little bit more. They responded to it pretty well. “Late, we gave up a couple with our backups, but we have high expectations of them, so that’s something we will need to fix. But, overall, I’m pretty happy with the result.” Scoring summary Weyauwega-Fremont 0 0 7 14 — 21 Bonduel 14 12 14 6 — 46 First quarter B: Robaidek 70-yard run (conversion missed) 7:47.
