Bernice Hawley, 88, of Muskego, and recently Wayzata, Minnesota, died in her sleep of complications from pneumonia on Sept. 19, 2015.
Bernice was born on Dec. 19, 1926, in Shawano, graduated from Shawano High School in 1944 and attended nursing school in a World War II program that trained military nurses. She spoke warmly about loving outdoor activities and spending time with relatives in the rural Shawano area as a young girl. After the war, she finished nursing school and married Shawano High School graduate Thomas J. Hawley in 1948. They lived in Oconto and Green Bay until 1959, when they moved to Muskego, where Bernice worked as a school nurse.
Tom and Bernice were active members of St. Martin of Tours parish in Franklin for over 50 years. She remained in Muskego until 2013, when desiring closer proximity to family in the Minneapolis area.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Barbara Vomastic, of Shawano; her husband of 57 years, Tom; and one sister, Gloria Theis, of Shawano.
She is survived by her sister, Barbara Yahr, of Muskego; five children, Ann Hawley, of Kehena Beach, Hawaii, Timothy Hawley, of Austerlitz, New York, Thomas A. (Carla) Hawley, of Edina, Minnesota, Barbara (Michael) Ruedig, of Concord, New Hampshire, and Jane (David) Stevens, of North Freedom; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
