Bernard Lee Paulson, 98, of Shawano, died on Friday, May 22, 2015. Born on Jan. 19, 1917, in the town of Waukechon, he was the son of the late Melvin and Stella (Olson) Paulson.
Bernard was inducted in the United States Army in 1941, taking him to Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe before being discharged in 1945. On June 11, 1949, Bernard was united in marriage to Dolores G. Lund in Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Lunds. Being a carpenter, he had worked for Ben Theis of Shawano, Schoenrock and Sons of Oshkosh, Hoffman and Boldt both of Appleton. He was a longtime member of the Jerusalem Cemetery Association and Lunds Snowbirds Snowmobile Club, and became a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Shawano in 1983.
Bernard is survived by his loving wife of nearly 66 years, Dolores, of Shawano; his daughter, Gail Paulson; a granddaughter, Stacy Lutz; two great-grandsons, Isaiah and Ezra; a great- granddaughter, Michaela; and numerous special nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Stella; brothers and sisters, Helen Holtz, Earl Paulson, and Viola and Kenneth in infancy.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 20, 2015, at the Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Lunds. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the church on Saturday from noon until the time of the service. Military rites will be conducted by the Shawano American Legion Post 117. Inurnment will be in the church cemetery.
