A benefit for a Lena third-grader with leukemia will take place from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Lena High School commons.
Kyle Hodkiewicz, 8, son of Jessica and Mitch Hodkiewicz, was diagnosed with leukemia this summer. According to the family, Kyle is responding well to treatment but has a long journey ahead.
The Lena Knights of Columbus, Lena FFA Alumni, Lena School District and St. Anne’s Catholic Church are planning the event.
Food will be available throughout the day and includes booyah by the Blazek family, homemade donuts by the Olson family, grilled cheese sandwiches, brats, burgers, an ice cream sundae bar and nonalcoholic beverages. Admission is $15 for individuals 16 and older, $25 for couples and $40 per family, which includes foods and drinks.
Activities include a putting green, fast-pitch speed detection, pumpkin bowling, finding a pea in the bean pool, bouncers and other games.
A silent auction and bucket raffle will take place. Paddle raffle prizes include pies from Wayne’s Family Restaurant and Stiles Junction Food & Fuel. A bake sale will be held. Donations of baked goods may be delivered to the school office on Friday or Saturday morning.
Jerry Voelker and the Jolly Gents will play at a polka Mass at 4 p.m. at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, then entertain at the school from 5:30-7 p.m.
