Anna Wirtz, 95, Oconto Falls, went to her eternal home Thursday morning, June 26, 2014. She was born July 17, 1918, in the town of Oconto Falls to Emil and Ernestine (Muth) Schindel.
In her youth, Anna worked in Chicago as a mother’s helper. On April 29, 1939, she married Chester R. Wirtz in Oconto Falls. The couple farmed all of their married lives in rural Oconto Falls, where they raised four children. Always a hard worker, Anna once did custodial work at North Morgan School, was employed at an area cheese factory, also worked in area canning factories during the summer months and, for many years, worked at Mid-Central Tool in Oconto Falls.
Anna’s family was her life, and she enjoyed helping them build houses, mixing cement, making wood, having a big garden every year, canning and raising chickens. She was a faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church in Oconto Falls for many years.
Survivors are her three children, Keith (Judy) Wirtz, Beverly Krause and Larry (Lynne) Wirtz, all of Oconto Falls; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by one son and daughter-in-law, Chester J. “Chet” and Janice Wirtz; five brothers and four sisters; one grandson, Aaron Wirtz; and a great-grandson, Andrew Brye.
Visitation was held from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, June 29, at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls. Visitation continued after 9 a.m. Monday, June 30, at the funeral home until the time of the service. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Jerry Wirtley officiating. Burial followed in Woodlawn Cemetery, Oconto Falls.
