SCHS bands get top ratings at jazz festival

Shawano Community High School’s award-winning jazz bands came home after taking top honors Feb. 27 from the University of Louisville’s annual jazz festival — an invitation only event that features outstanding high school ensembles from across the country.

Shawano was the only school representing Wisconsin at the festival.

Spoonful of sugar helpful to produce latest musical

The classic tale of a nanny flying in and showing a family how to love and care will be brought to life by more than 60 children later this month.

“Mary Poppins” will be the annual musical for the Wolf River Homeschoolers Performing Arts program, premiering March 19 at Clintonville High School, 64 W. Green Tree Road, Clintonville. Twenty families provide the cast for this classic tale for all ages.

Writing tends to be better when it’s original

In a recent column, I mentioned a film, “Finding Forrester” starring Sean Connery. A gifted actor, Connery is best known for his depiction of “Bond, James Bond” in a blockbuster series of iconic suspense movies.

While doing Christmas cleaning, I ran across my DVD of the film, which I consider his best work.
