Stars shock Ice Bears with 2-1 win

The Ice Bears played an aggressive game with 51 shots on goal, but they only managed to connect on one of them in a 2-1 loss to the Eau Claire Area Stars.

It was only the second loss of the year for Bay Area.

Trailing 2-0 from early in the second period, Bay Area’s Faye Brunke scored the Ice Bears only goal at 11:54 with assists from Aisling Buchan and Piper Losey.

Bay Area goalie Reese Spiering had 21 saves, and Stars goalie Evie Fritzl had 50.

Eau Claire was penalized four times for eight minute, while Bay Area had five infractions for 10 minutes.

Friday, Jan. 30

Bay Area 7, Chippewa Falls/Menomonie 1

Six goals in the second period powered the Bay Area Ice Bears to a 7-1 win over Chippewa Falls/Menomonie Sabers.

First, Ava McDonald scored at 12:22 in the first period with assists from Gabrielle Watts and Elliana Memken.

The floodgates opened in the second period. Addison Dahl scored just 15 seconds into it with Faye Brunke and Hannah Von Haden assisting. At 54 seconds, Aisling Buchan scored with help from Lily Lyons.

Madeline Engles scored with help from McDonald and Malin Jewitt, quickly followed by a goal from Addison Dahl with assistance from McDonald and Brunke. Jewitt and Elizabeth Bunker assisted Engles on another goal at 11:41, and Von Haden scored unassisted at 16:05 to wrap up on the onslaught.

The Sabers scored their goal in the third period.

Ice Bears goalie Reese Spiering had nine saves against 10 shots on goal, and Kade Kitchenmaster had six saves against nine shots on goal. Sabers goalie Audrie Dowd had 22 saves against 29 shots, and Cameron Fedie had three saves against three shots.

Each team was penalized three times for six minutes.
