Shawano’s boys wrestlers earned a second place finish at Valdez’s on Jan. 10, getting outscored by their opponents 226-182.

Nikkolas Waukau took first at 113 pounds.

“He wrestled well during his matches today,” coach Mike Homan said. “He continues to have a great season and is becoming more consistent in his matches. We are proud of him and excited to watch him finish his season strong.”

Kian Morstad also placed first in his 150-pound weight class.

“He always keeps the pressure on in his matches,” Homan said. “He moves forward and finishes all of his positions. Today he was down late in a couple of matches but really found his strength in the third period. He has a great cross face cradle, and he uses it well. He has now pushed his total wins to 26 on the year.”

Placing second at 190 was Drew Chelberg.

“He earned his 25th win today and pinned all but one person in his bracket today,” Homan said. “Drew is always consistent and gives the best effort that he has.”

Marcus Brezgel placed third at 165.

Placing fourth were Cash Panske at 120 and Dylan Gartner at 132.

Dane Hodkiewicz was fifth at 126.

Finishing in eighth were Collin Piper at 144, Kody Popelka at 157 and Joel Shaver at 175.

Austin Stickney took ninth at 138.

“I was proud of the whole team today,” Homan said. “Everybody had good effort on the mat.”
