Deb Forrest has been named 2023 American Legion Auxiliary Unit 44 Member of the Year by President Karen Prueter. Karen presented the award to Deb at the annual Legion Awards Dinner held May 1 at Legion Post 44 Clubhouse in Wabeno.
Members of the year are chosen for this recognition by the unit president. In honoring Deb, Karen thanked her for her volunteer work helping veterans.
“Deb has been an active Auxiliary member for eight years and currently serves as secretary and also sends birthday cards, etc., to Unit 44 Auxiliary members,” Karen says. “She cheerfully helps at various Legion events such as Post 44 gunless poultry shoot meat raffles, Trump Lake Fish-O-Ree, and cleaning Sylvan Post 44 Veterans Memorial Park in Wabeno. We are delighted to recognize her service with this very special honor.”
Deb and her late husband, Mike, a proud Navy veteran, moved to Mountain in 2014. Mike joined Post 44 in 2015.
“After a long marriage in which we did most everything together,” Deb says, “it was only natural that I join the Auxiliary. I feel blessed to be able to serve our wonderful veterans in any way I can, and I treasure the time I spend with the Legion Ladies who have honored me with this award.”
Deb, who originally hails from Green Bay, still lives in Mountain. She has a son, Chad; a daughter, Clara; and a 7-year-old granddaughter, Ivy Sophia.
