The grand prize winner for the $10,000 Promote Pulaski Raffle on March 11 at Scolly’s Hometown Historic Ballroom was Tom and Paula Maroszek from Pulaski.
Other prize winners include Ryan Selner, who won $2,500; Keith Deneys, $1,000; Diane Smith & Mike Maroszek, $500; Chad Heidt, $500; Josh Brzeczkowski, $500; Dennis Watters, $500; Ron Maroszek, $500; Karter Maroszek, $250; and Teddi Black, $250. A total of $16,500 was awarded.
Proceeds from the raffle will help the organization to continue their mission of educating, promoting, marketing and building business and tourism in and around Pulaski and the surrounding areas, focusing on Pulaski’s rich Polish heritage. Currently, Casimir Pulaski Days and The Barnyard Estates Projects are two focal points of the organization.
Auditions for ‘Lustful Youth’ coming in April
Abrams Spotlight Productions Inc. will hold auditions from 6-8:30 p.m. April 4-5 for its summer show, “Lustful Youth” to be presented June 15-18 and June 22-25.
This comedy, written and directed by Mike Eserkaln, calls for male and female roles, age 16 and older. No experience is necessary, and all are welcome to audition. “Lustful Youth” is a fast-paced farce that tells the story of a television statistician who is contractually obligated to write an evening soap opera. With the help of his muse, he wanders in and out of realities as he pieces together an out-of-control romp known as “Lustful Youth.”
Eserkaln, the artistic director of Comedy City in De Pere, is a veteran ASPI performer and director. Anyone planning to audition can contact ASPI, 920-826-5852 or theater.aspi@gmail.com, for access to the script.
Auditions are at the Nancy Byng Community Theater, 5852 Maple St., Abrams. Individuals who audition should come prepared to read from the script. Rehearsals will start in April.
ASPI is also looking for volunteers to build and paint sets, sell concessions, sew costumes, usher, and help with other tasks. Contact ASPI to learn about volunteer opportunities.
Tickets for “Lustful Youth” go on sale April 15. Season ticket holders and spotlight sponsors can purchase tickets before the general public.
Dollars for Scholars planning sweet event
Tickets are now on sale for the Shawano Dollars for Scholars new event “How Sweet It Is” on April 28.
The event will be held from 6-8 p.m. at Shawano Community High School, 220 County Road B, with a dessert buffet and beverage. There will be raffles and a silent auction with music and art provided by SCHS students. The woodworking and ag departments will also have displays and items to bid on.
Tickets will be $10 per person with children 10 and under at $2. They can be purchased at Charlie’s County Market or the Shawano Country Chamber of Commerce.
“This year, more than ever, students will need help in attending a college or technical school or taking a course from an accredited school,” said Kelli Chelberg, DFS president. “The scholarships from Shawano Dollars for Scholars can have a big impact on a student’s educational opportunities.”

Deadline approaches for student writing contest
The deadline to enter the George Putz Memorial Student Writing Contest is April 3.
Any student in grades 1-12 who lives or goes to school in Shawano or Menominee counties is welcome to submit entries in fiction, non-fiction, and poetry categories. Students compete for a chance to win a cash prize and a certificate of achievement. There is no charge for entries and students can submit as many entries as they would like in any category of the competition.
All entries are judged by an independent panel of writers. This is the 17th year of the contest.
Through the years Shawano Area Writers, a nonprofit organization sponsoring the contest, has given away thousands of dollars to winning student writers. A couple of years ago, the group also began giving out a $2,000 scholarship to a graduating senior.

ThedaCare book and gift fair returns to Shawano
The ThedaCare Medical Center-Shawano Auxiliary has announced that the Books are Fun book and gift fair is back.
The sale will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 3 in the hospital lobby at ThedaCare Medical Center, 100 County Road B, Shawano.
The sale includes a variety of books, greeting cards, toys and activity sets, garden and home décor, electronics, kitchen gadgets, and unique gift items. All proceeds from this sale support the auxiliary’s projects for patients and the hospital.
Gillett library hosting legislators on April 1
Wisconsin Sen. Mary Felzkowski and Rep. Jeff Mursau will hold a listening session on the state biennial budget from 11 a.m. to noon April 1 at the Gillett Public Library, 200 E. Main St., Gillett.
The library will be open for this event.
