Marion’s big lead ends in overtime loss

Wausaukee 36, Gillett 34

Gillett and Wausaukee battled back and forth throughout the game, but the Rangers ended up on top 36-34 in boys basketball action.

The Tigers dropped to 2-9 in the Marinette & Oconto Conference and 2-16 overall.

Friday, Feb. 6

Bonduel 66, Shiocton 53

The Bears are 11-0 in the CWC-East after a 66-53 win over Shiocton.

Ryan Westrich led Bonduel with 17 points, followed by Quinn Wesenberg with 14, Carter Moesch with 13 and Jack Zernicke with 11.

Tigerton 72, Bowler 28

Tigerton cruised to an 18-0 overall record with a 72-28 CWC-North win over Bowler.

Chase Stevens led the Panthers with 10 points, with Caleb Pitman adding seven and Treyvon Granquist scoring four.

Granquist led with seven rebounds, as Pitman had five, and Blake Brunner had three. Granquist added three steals, while Brunner had one block and one steal.

Mason Kolpack, Raiden Stevens and Chase Stevens each had an assist.

Tigerton is 7-0 in the conference. Bowler is 4-4 in league play and 6-9 overall.

Suring 72, Gresham 34

Suring topped Gresham 72-34 in a nonconference matchup.

The Wildcats were led by Nolan Pecore’s 15 points. Thomas Kaquatosh scored eight, and Wyatt Neitzer added three.

Kaquatosh nabbed 10 rebounds, with Miles Wilber added seven and Reese Schick getting five.

Pecore also had three assists.

Northland Lutheran 71, Marion 67 (OT)

Marion’s huge 40-22 halftime lead fell apart as Northland Lutheran clawed their way back into the contest, tying the game at 57-57 and forcing overtime. The Wildcats kept up their scoring barrage and outdid the Mustangs 14-10 in the OT to get the CWC-North win.

Nolan Wisnefske led Marion with 15 points, followed by Sawyer Kamba and Jolanzo Perez-LeRoy with 11 each.

Kamba led the team with six steals, as he and Elijah Scheef each had eight rebounds. Scheef also had a steal. Jaxon Berg pulled down seven rebounds.

Kamba’s seven assists were the most for Marion. Wisnefske and Shane Blum each had three.

Marion fell to 2-5 in the conference and 6-11 overall.

Iola-Scandinavia 85, Menominee Nation 68

Ryan Corn scored 19 points in Menominee Nation’s 85-68 loss to Iola-Scandinavia in CWC-East action.

Kenew Awonohopay scored 17, and Anik Corn added 12.

Awonohopay led the Eagle with 11 rebounds, followed by Anik Corn’s nine and Henry Lyons’ three. Awonohopay also nabbed two steals while also leading the team with five assists. Ryan Corn dished out three assists, and Lyons had one.

Freedom 100, Oconto Falls 53

Freedom broke the triple-digit mark, and unfortunately it was against Oconto Falls, as the Irish won 100-53 in the North Eastern Conference.

The Panthers trailed 57-27 at halftime.

Oconto Falls was led by Jameson Beaman’s 13 points, followed by Collin Radtke and Brady Bursa with eight each.

Teagan Tate collected four rebounds and two steals, while Beaman had four rebounds and one steal, and Carter Egen had three rebounds and one steal.

Bursa had two assists, and Tate and Radtke each had one.

The Panthers are 8-5 in the NEC and 13-6 overall.

Pulaski 71, Ashwaubenon 54

Bohdan Schmidt scored 31 points as the Red Raiders pulled away from the Jaguars in a 71-54 nonconference win.

Pulaski held a 32-29 halftime lead, and the game remained close as the second half got underway. However, Pulaski slowly began to dominate at the net and ran away with the victory.

Noah Mijal added 14 points for Pulaski, and Eli Brancefield scored 10.

Schmidt also led the team with four steals, while he, Jax Urben and Brancefield each had five rebounds. Urben and Brancefield each had a steal.

Schmidt dished out four assists, while Urben and Owen Weise each had one.

The Red Raiders overall mark is 9-9.

Seymour 84, Shawano 39

The Shawano Hawks battled against the top-ranked Seymour Thunder, falling 84-39.

Jack Nordin led the Hawks with a 16-point performance, continuing to be a steady offensive presence. Will Verkuilen added eight points, and Anderson Schmidt had six.

Schmidt, Josiah Kuehl and Nordin each had two rebounds.

Kristoffer Kallies and Collin Dieck each had two assists, and Nordin had one.
