Emily Kazik, a payroll technician in the Shawano County administration department, has been chosen as the new county treasurer.
Kazik will complete the unexpired term of Deb Wallace, who resigned in December. The four-year term will expire in January 2029.
Kazik’s hiring was approved by the executive committee Jan. 21. The county board was expected to approve her new status Jan. 28.
Kazik was first hired by the county March 2, 2020.
According to the Wisconsin Counties Association, the county treasurer handles the core functions of cash management, collecting revenues (like property taxes), disbursing funds and ensuring daily financial operations run smoothly.
The county’s finance director, a position held by Nichole Zuehl, leads overall financial strategy, budgeting, accounting and reporting.
With Kazik hired, the next thing for county officials is to hire a deputy treasurer, a position that is also now vacant.
Under direct supervision of the county treasurer, the deputy treasurer is responsible for assisting in all functions of real estate tax collecting and receipting of incoming monies to the county.
The full-time position has a salary between $24.58 and $28.09 per hour.
