Wildcats, Chargers, Hawks advance to sectionals

Lena 47, Three Lakes/Phelps 44

Lena’s girls basketball team needed its three-point halftime lead as both teams scored 24 points after the break, giving the Wildcats a 47-44 regional title win over Three Lakes/Phelps.

Carla Caballero-Morante led Lena with 16 points, while Ella Thomson scored 13 and Alisa Finger had six.

Thomson pulled down 13 rebounds, and also contributed two blocks and two steals. Finger had eight rebounds, a block and three steals, while Kaitlyn Borkovec had six rebounds and a steal.

Thomson dished out six assists, with Borkovec and Kostreva each contributed two.

Lena and Florence will face off March 5 in Peshtigo in the sectional semifinal round.

Wittenberg-Birnamwood 75, Bloomer 49

Wittenberg-Birnamwood won its 26th straight game this year with a 75-49 win over Bloomer to capture the regional championship.

Rory Salvesen led the team with 27 points, followed by Melaina Granquist with 20 and Harper Rogowski with 15.

Wittenberg-Birnamwood will play Mosinee at D.C. Everest on March 5 in the sectional semifinal game.

Shawano 54, New London 41

Shawano defeated New London 54-41 to win the regional title.

The Hawks will play Rhinelander at Antigo on March 5 in sectional semifinal action.

St. Mary Catholic 47, Bonduel 44

Bonduel’s season ended with a 47-44 loss to St. Mary Catholic in the regional final. The Bears ended the year at 21-5.

Winneconne 69, Oconto Falls 33

The Panthers lost 69-33 to Winneconne in the regional final. Oconto Falls finished the year at 12-15.

Friday, Feb. 27

Lena 72, Chequamegon 30

Alisa Finger led the Wildcats with 23 points as Lena topped Chequamegon 72-30 to advance to the regional final.

Ella Thomson scored 18 points, and Abby Kostreva added eight.

Thomson led the team with 15 rebounds, three blocks and two steals. Finger had 13 rebounds, a block and steals, while Kaitlyn Borkovec had eight rebounds.

Kostreva contributed five assists, with Finger and Carla Caballero-Morante each adding three.
