A big first half helped both Suring and Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas Academy open their 8-player football seasons with home wins.
Suring scored 56 points in the first two quarters and went on to post a 69-12 win over Wausaukee on Aug. 21.
Meanwhile, on Aug. 22, Lena/STAA shut out Niagara 53-0 in Lena.
Suring 69, Wausaukee 12
The Eagles outscored the Rangers 32-6 in the first quarter and 24-6 in the second quarter to take a 56-12 halftime lead.
The Eagles added to their lead with a touchdown in the third and fourth quarters while holding Wausaukee scoreless.
Most of Wausaukee’s yardage came through the air, as Hank Nuetzel completed 14 of 25 passes for 168 yards. Gavin Thomson caught 10 of Nuetzel’s passes for 132 yards.
Suring’s defense also held the Rangers to 51 rushing yards.
Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas Academy 53, Niagara 0
The Titans used 293 rushing yards and a stingy defense to defeat Niagara in a nonconference matchup.
Lena/STAA took a 16-0 lead into the second quarter after Max Peterson and Jake Farley scored on runs of 6 and 32 yards, respectively.
Farley’s 11-yard touchdown pass to Colt Miller in the second quarter gave the Titans a 24-0 halftime lead.
Peterson added a 30-yard touchdown run fewer than two minutes into the second half, and Luke Koslowsky’s 6-yard run gave the Titans a 40-0 lead.
Carson Joyce added a 30-yard touchdown run, and Isaac Peterson capped the scoring with a 19-yard run.
Farley completed four of six passes for 49 yards and added a team-high 76 rushing yards on 10 carries.
Max Peterson added 67 yards on the ground.
Lena/STAA held Niagara to 78 yards of offense.
Oconomowoc 38, Pulaski 14
The Red Raiders didn’t have an answer for Alex Seraphine, who rushed for 188 yards and four touchdowns Aug. 22 in Oconomowoc.
Three touchdowns in the first quarter gave the Raccoons an early 20-0 lead.
Seraphine’s touchdown runs of 2, 4, 5 and 2 yards helped give the home team a 32-0 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Pulaski came up with a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter, as Bohdan Schmidt and Brock Weideman scored on runs of 18 and 3 yards, respectively.
Schmidt finished with 81 of the Red Raiders’ 111 rushing yards.
