Lakeland 3, Shawano/Bonduel 2 (2OT)
Shawano/Bonduel’s boys hockey team saw their season end with a heartbreaking double overtime loss to Lakeland.
With time running out in regulation, Quinten Harkey scored at 16:14 with help from Blake Swedberg to bring the fifth-seeded Hawks into a 2-2 tie and forcing overtime in the WIAA regional finals.
Neither team scored in the first overtime period, but fourth-seeded Lakeland scored at 3:17 in the second OT to collect the win and advance in the playoffs.
The Thunderbirds opened the game with tow goals in the first period. The Hawks’ first goal came at 15:21 in the second period on a score from Jeremy Helmuth and an assist from Teagan Harkey.
Shawano/Bonduel goalie Tyson Lyons collected 28 saves, while Lakeland goalie Cam Bernard had 58 saves.
The Hawks were penalized five times for 10 minutes, and the Thunderbirds were penalized three times for six minutes.
Pacelli 2, Antigo 1
The Red Robins ended their season with a 2-1 WIAA regional final loss, coming up short against the Stevens Point Pacelli Cardinals.
Sixth-seeded Pacelli upset No. 3 seed Antigo to advance to the sectional round.
Bay Area 2, Notre Dame 1
The Bay Area Storm are regional champions after defeating Notre Dame 2-1.
The two teams combined for 71 shots on goal with three finding the back of the net.
The Tritons took a 1-0 lead in the first period.
Grant Forgette tied the game at 7:52 in the second period with assists from Cash Ebeling and Jack Stender. Aiden Buchan scored the winning goal at 6:43 in the third period, with Conner Viau and Owen Selissen assisting.
Bay Area was called for five penalties for 10 minutes, while Notre Dame had three infractions for six minutes.
Bay Area’s Justin Pintar had 43 saves, and Notre Dame’s Ty Schmitz had 25.
Bay Area was scheduled to play Feb. 24 in the sectional semifinals against either Fond du Lac or De Pere, with the sectional finals set for Feb. 27.Thursday, Feb. 19
