Wisconsin had 1.7 days suitable for fieldwork statewide for the week ending April 5, according to the U.S. Department of Agricultures’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
The week started with temperatures well above normal, allowing farmers in the southern part of the state to seed oats and alfalfa and spread manure. Heavy precipitation later in the week, however, left fields water-logged across the state.
Topsoil moisture condition rated 0% very short, 4% short, 54% adequate and 42% surplus. Subsoil moisture condition rated 2% very short, 5% short, 68% adequate and 25% surplus.
There were a few reports of corn being planted. Oat planting was 2% complete, while spring tillage was 3% complete.
Pasture and range condition was rated 35% good to excellent.
Winter wheat condition was rated 51% good to excellent.
