Christine McKinnies reluctantly took the reins of the Shawano School Board on April 27 during the board’s reorganizational meeting when she was unanimously named president.
McKinnies is replacing Tim Renard, who served as the board president for the past year. Renard was nominated but declined to be the president for another year. Jeana Winslow was also nominated but declined the post as well, instead being named as the board’s vice president for another year.
That left McKinnies as the only candidate, and when asked if she wanted to accept the nomination, she hesitated for a moment and said, “What else can I do?”
Al Pyatskowit will be the board’s clerk for another after being unanimously named to the post, while John Arens was unanimously named to the treasurer position, replacing Karen Houston.
The board also had a plaque recognizing Mike Musolff for his six years as a board member, including several years as the board president, but Musolff did not attend the meeting. No one has filled his seat, so the board is expected to find someone else to be named in the near future. A timeline was not set up at the April 27 board meeting.
