Members of the Shawano County Capital Improvement Projects Committee have prioritized four needs for the 2026 year and laid out general guidance for work in 2026-30.
Projects tapped for next year total $1,183,570.
They include:
• $620,000 for a highway department roof project, funded through short-term borrowing. The project will fix the leaking roof. The existing roof was sealed with a flexible liquid rubberized sealer in 2018 due to the roof leaking at that time.
• $125,000 for the highway department east shop garage door replacement, paid for with a highway department fund balance. There are structural concerns with the original building built in the 1930s. The structural concerns along with the garage door replacements are part of this project.
• $363,000 for a cold storage and office building for the parks department, funded through short-term borrowing. The county has a lot of expensive equipment that sits out year-round, and the parks director will need a new office when the current one is turned into a rental.
• $75,570 for remodeling the parks department office at Shawano Lake County Park into a rental space, paid for through short-term borrowing. This will generate additional revenue for the parks department.
Put on hold with no projected completion date noted were four other projects.
These include:
• $93,725 for five shower stalls at the work release center. Currently, it’s getting unsafe for inmates and workers with sharp tile falling and coming loose.
• $74,609.70 for a new 100 kWh generator for the work release center. The current unit is original to the building. The new one would be a safer outside unit.
• $84,750 for a 125 kWh generator for the work release center. The current unit is also original to the building. A new generator would handle possible future building additions.
• $1.6 million for a highway department wash bay. There is no wash bay now, and staff power washes trucks on each end of the shop. The moisture has caused deterioration of the roof and insulation, and air exchange and heating units.
