Shawano County will borrow up to $3 million as a stopgap measure to balance its 2026 budget.
The money will be used to pay for projects that include road construction, road maintenance and other capital improvement costs.
The county’s executive committee voted Oct. 15 to borrow up to $3 million at 5.5% interest from Premier Community Bank.
The county will borrow the money Dec. 15 with a payment date of June 15, 2026. However, officials intend to pay back the loan Jan. 16, 2026, including interest of $14,013.69, according to Nichole Zuehl, finance director.
The county board is expected to approve the borrowing when it adopts the 2026 budget Oct. 22.
To balance the 2025 budget, the county borrowed $2 million in a similar fashion.
