Sobecks honored with Lions Community Service Award

Dan and Joan Sobeck were presented the Lena Lions Community Service Award by Lena Lion President Lisa Misco during the club’s annual Christmas banquet at the Holiday Inn Kelly Lake. The award was in appreciation for their hard work and dedication to their family farm business, and the support the family farm has given to the Lena Lions Club in sponsoring ads for the Lena Lions fish fry and Dairy Fest in September, as well as for donating to the purchase of ice cream that is a complimentary treat enjoyed by many at Dairy Fest. Dan grew up on his family’s dairy farm in Lena. He graduated from Lena High School, then farmed with his parents. Joan also grew up on her family’s farm in Beaver. She graduated from Coleman High School. Dan and Joan have been married for 51 years and are members of St. Anne Parish in Lena. They have three children, Randy and his wife Amy, Tim and his wife Jody, and Chrissy and her husband Jamie Demmith. The family includes eight extraordinary grandchildren. The Sobeck family farm is located east of Lena on Jagiello Road. The family formed an LLC in 2000, and later their sons, Randy and Tim, purchased the farm. Dan still helps on the farm daily and Joan does the bookwork and helps her grandsons feed calves. Producing high-quality milk is the family’s goal.
