Gov. Tony Evers didn’t walk away with any pumpkins Oct. 16 after visiting Porter’s Patch in Navarino, but he was convinced to take a few minutes and put together a scarecrow.

Tyler Thornborrow is generally known as a school resource officer in Shawano, but an honor recently awarded by the Wisconsin Assembly reveals that his work extends long after the children go home for the day.

Three proposals came forward to the Shawano Redevelopment Authority on Oct. 14 regarding the long-vacant building at 205 N. Main St., but a final decision is still in the works.

City Administrator Eddie Sheppard said following a closed session lasting almost an hour that there were a few questions needing to be answered about the building before the authority made its selection.

Julie Hasser, Shawano County’s director of human resources, will serve as interim administrative coordinator for the next several months, following the abrupt resignation of Jim Davel earlier this month.

Hasser’s appointment was made Oct. 15 at the meeting of the county’s executive committee.

She will be paid an additional $5,000 per month for the added duties.
