Eugene R. Casper

Eugene R. “Geno” Casper, 69, of Shawano, died peacefully in his sleep at his Lehigh Acres home in Florida. Gene was born on May 19, 1950, in Chicago, son of the late Maurice and Bernice (Clark) Casper. Gene served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. Gene met his wife, Sharon Cochrane, in Chicago. They moved to Shawano, where he built his own home. He worked for the Carpenters Union and retired at age 55. Gene was an exceptional golfer and played many courses all over the country. He loved fishing and hunting as well, especially with his buddy, Mark Casper. Gene was definitely known as a jokester and told the best stories to make us laugh. He also enjoyed going to drag races with his older brother, Morry Casper, whom owned the original Shake, Rattle and Run racecar. Gene always told his family and friends to “enjoy life; we’re only here for a visit.” Gene is survived by his older brother, Maurice Casper Sr., of Goodman; sisters, Lois (Pete) Bartolini, of Illinois, Diane (Tim Scanlan) Suhrbier, of Arkansas, and Dawn (Casper) Wiebold, of Shawano; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Bernice Casper; wife, Sharon Casper; and sisters, Janice Morris and Bernice (Niece) Brandt. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date for family and friends.
